Lawrence Jones, Tenor

Lawrence Jones has established an active presence on the concert and operatic stages. He has sung roles with companies such as New York City Opera, Glimmerglass Opera, Opera Saratoga, Amarillo Opera, and the Tanglewood Music Festival and has received praise for his portrayal of Tom Rakewell in Stravinsky’s The Rake’s Progress at the Princeton and Aldeburgh Festivals. The New York Times wrote, “Tenor Lawrence Jones brought a light, sweet voice and lyricism to Tom,” while Opera News praised him for his “clean, ringing tenor.”
On the concert stage, Mr. Jones has sung as a soloist with Musica Sacra, Boston Baroque, Charlotte Symphony, Boston Pops, Rhode Island Philharmonic, Boston Modern Orchestra Project, New Mexico Philharmonic, and the Utah Symphony.
His engagements last season included as the Evangelist in C.P.E. Bach’s St. John Passion with the Saint Thomas Choir, Stradella’s San Giovanni Battista with Haymarket Opera at the Valletta International Baroque Festival in Malta, and his debut at Alice Tully Hall as tenor soloist in Schubert’s Mass in E-flat with the Riverside Choral Society. This season he sings as a soloist in performances of Messiah with the Saint Thomas Choir, and in Mozart’s Requiem and Mendelssohn’s Christus with the Back Bay Chorale. He last performed with the Oratorio Society in Bach’s Mass in B minor in May 2017.
